I have been waiting for months to do this – and really wasn’t sure when would be a good time. Well now seems as good a time as any.
#Woolfalong participants might be aware that Phase 2 of #Woolfalong ends in a couple of weeks. During May/June – Phase 3 of #Woolfalong the theme will be short stories – and during July/August Phase 4 the theme is biography. More about all of that on my #Woolfalong page.
(A very big thank you to OUP for donating these lovely editions)
Back in January when someone at Oxford University Press heard about the project I received an email offering me some books. How lovely, the Oxford Classics are real beauties – so I gladly accepted some for myself and a couple for you too. So thanks to the generosity of OUP I have a copy of Flush and a copy of Orlando to give away – which can be read for phase 4 (or sooner if you really can’t wait).
Phase 3 of #Woolfalong comes next – short stories – and for that I have one rather pretty gift edition of Kew Gardens (1919) courtesy of… well me. I saw it and couldn’t resist. The slim little volume contains one short story – produced by Kew publishing it also contains simple black and white illustrations. It will make a perfect little gift – for either yourself or someone else.
If you would like to win one of these three giveaway editions – please leave a comment telling me what your favourite read for #Woolfalong has been – or what you are particularly looking forward to reading if you haven’t had chance to join in yet. Don’t forget to tell me which book you would like. If you are happy to win any of the three then you have three chances to win. I shall close the giveaway on Monday evening (25th April) – and draw the three names using Random.org.
Good luck everyone.
I look forward to reading KEW GARDENS. Please count me in for any of the three titles thank you. A fabulous addition to my little “library”.
Good luck 😊
What a lovely giveaway Ali! Not that I need any more books, but I would love the pretty copy of Orlando as I hope to read that for the #woolfalong. Failing that, the Kew Gardens looks lovely as well….. :))))
Glad you will be reading Orlando To loved it last year.
Please enter me for any if the three books if you are happy to post overseas – I haven’t read any Woolf yet but I am quite keen.
No problem posting overseas thus time none of the books are huge.
How fabulous! I most recently read and enjoyed ‘Between the Acts’ for #Woolfalong but ‘To The Lighthouse’ is the one that is still very much with me even though I last read it over a year ago. I would love to be in with a chance of winning ‘Kew Gardens’. I haven’t read that since university, and I’d love to revisit! 🙂
I am looking forward to reading Kew Gardens myself – and To the Lighthouse is my favourite so far although I so loved Night and Day too.
I had planned on re-reading Mrs Dalloway. which I loved several years ago when I first read it, but time overtook me and I decided to read some of her work I haven’t read before. I’m currently reading The Voyage Out and I’m looking forward to reading some of her short stories and essays later on this year. Please enter me for the giveaway of Orlando.
Oh good glad you’re reading The Voyage Out- I really liked it so hope you do too.
You know that I have been a Woolf reader for a loooong time both in French and in English. Each book is a new discovery of a new Virginia Woolf. Thematic may be the same, her writing technique changes all the time: this is part of her fascinating power over me. And she was the first writer who made me think that that I too would write some day. All books are linked with strong intimate memories, except “The Voyage Out”, “Night and Day”, and “Flush”. But I would love this beauty of “Kew Gardens” adtion that you found! Thank you. 🙂
I do love hearing how enthusiastic so many people are about Virginia Woolf.
I haven’t reviewed it yet but I loved Mrs Dalloway. So much so that I went back and read the first few sections again when I finished. I also have A Room of One’s Own lined up. I’d love to win any of these.
Looking forward to your review of Mrs Dalloway. A Room of One’s own is superb.
I already have a copy of Orlando, but I would love to have a chance to win either Kew Gardens or Flush since I haven’t read either yet! I’m looking forward to reading Night and Day in the next few weeks and also Jacob’s Room later in the year but really I’m just excited to read anything by Virginia Woolf that I haven’t read yet! She’s the best. 🙂
I read Night and Day last month and really enjoyed it. Glad you love VW so much.
I sadly haven’t been able to take part in any of your Woolfalong, even though it would be a great encouragement to finally read something by this classic author! Orlando is one I hear a lot about, maybe if I won a copy it would be the final push I need 😀
Excellent I really enjoyed Orlando.
Thank you for such a lovely offer. I think Orlando might be my favourite Woolf read so far – such a hard choice! Ground breaking, character of Orlando, descriptions of London and the old house…. Happy to be considered for any giveaway. I never win anything anyway!!!
Oh good luck – you never know someone has to win.
That is so kind Ali! Much as I love the look of your shiny new ones there, I am looking forward to re-reading (again!) Orlando, which I read in my teens, and then did a re read of about 15 years later with my mother, so my battered copy holds fond history! And I bought a second hand copy of Flush a while ago, again, read first in my yoof! But, Kew Gardens I have never read, so please submit me for that
I was hoping to re-read The Voyage Out before the end of the month, but as ever have the books stacked. My most looked forward to reads were, and are, the re-reads of To The Lighthouse – which will for sure be one of my reads of the year, and Orlando, later. To The Lighthouse and Orlando were both reads which continued to whisper to me many years after first reading, or re-reading them
Funny, isn’t it, Shiny New Books and reads are lovely, but there is an especial magic about dusty old reads in dusty old books, as you wonder through your past.
Oh yes our favourite old books can be so special. I felt like that about To the Lighthouse.
Can’t resist! I have really enjoyed dipping into VW’s diaries for the #Woolfalong. I don’t know the Kew Garden short story. Looks soon tempting.
Loving this theme of yours.
So glad you’re enjoying #Woolfalong.
I have the others, but would love to be entered for Kew Gardens. Thank you for running this lovely themed reading year!
It’s been lovely to have so many people joining in so enthusiastically.
I’ve been lurking here rather than commenti before, sorry. My favourite read has been A Room Of One’s Own. Please count me in for any of the titles.
Lurking is fine 😊 glad you enjoyed A Room of One’s Own.
I’ve been lurking on here rather than commenting, sorry. My favourite read has been A Room Of One’s Own. Please count me in for any of the titles. Thank you!
I’ve read A Room of One’s Own and To the Lighthouse years ago. I adored To the Lighthouse! I have a couple other Woolf books on my shelves which I haven’t gotten to yet, including Orlando. I would love to enter to win either of the other two books. Thank you for the chance! Looking forward to reading Orlando and Mrs. Dalloway one of these days. I’ve heard great things about both. Happy Woolfalong!
Thanks hope you enjoy Mrs Dalloway and Orlando.
Hello 🙂 I haven’t had any chance to read Virginia Woolf at all, but someone on Twitter ever recommended me to read Orlando, so I’d love to win that. Please enter me for Orlando if you don’t mind posting overseas. Thank you so much for the giveaway 🙂
I really enjoyed reading Orlando myself.
I hope it’s not too late to join in the Woolfalong now 🙂 I finished reading Mrs Dalloway a couple of days ago and was so mesmerised by it. I certainly want to read more of her work, so that would be a great opportunity.
All three books look utterly lovely! Thank you so much for the giveaway, Ali. I’m really looking forward to reading more posts on Virginia Woolf.
Certainly it’s not too late. So glad you enjoyed Mrs Dalloway.
Mrs Dalloway remains my all time favourite Woolf and I re-read it regularly. But I have never read Orlando for some reason it has passed me by.
It is a wonderfully imagined work. I loved it.
My plans to join you for the Woolfalong went astray unfortunately. I still haven’t managed #2
It doesn’t matter if you haven’t joined in so far lots of people are dipping in and out. Did you want to enter the giveaway?
I adored To The Lighthouse. Thanks for getting me into the #Woolfalong. I’m now reading Between the Acts and wallowing in the fabulous language again. Would love any of your Giveaway books.
😊I adored To the Lighthouse as well.
[…] this year, although I do appear to have won Ali’s giveaway for Virginia Woolf’s “Kew Gardens“, which is very handy as I don’t have any of Woolf’s short stories for the next […]
