The Virginia Woolf giveaway closed last night and this morning I selected the winners using Random.org.
So congratulations to:
Jacquiwine – who wins a copy of To the Lighthouse
Fictionfan – who wins a copy of Mrs Dalloway
Helen Kestle – who wins a copy of The Waves.
I hope to find time to post these off sometimes next week – and look forward to having you all join in the #Woolfalong fun next year.
Just to let you all know I will be adding a #Woolfalong page to my blog with the schedule on where people can – if they wish – leave comments with links to their own Virginia Woolf blog posts.
This last week has been so busy and tiring that I am a tiny bit behind in my blogging and I have had slightly less reading time than I would like too. I had hoped to review Richmal Crompton’s An Old Man’s Birthday on Friday but I just didn’t have the energy to write the review. So all things being well I will get something pulled together for tomorrow or Monday.
I have one week left before I break up for Christmas, and I am already planning my reading for the two week holiday. I have these two beauties set aside – both collections of Christmas stories which I am itching to get my hands on. One of them I will probably read next week, one the week after. I am a sucker for Christmas books, and I simply couldn’t resist these – even though I am absolutely not supposed to be buying books.
So what are your Christmassy reading plans?
I bought the Trollope stories last Christmas to start off our year of reading the Barsetshire books… and didn’t, so now they’ll close off the year. 🙂 Merry Christmas!
It’s an attractive little book too isn’t it? 😉
Congrats to all the winners! They *are* in for treats! I read the Penguin Christmas Classics Gogol last year and it was wonderful. Reading-wise I have a Wilkie Collins lurking which will probably be ideal for this time of year, and probably something Russian! 🙂
I am trying hard not to buy all the Penguin Christmas Classics – it’s difficult though. Wilkie Collins is perfect for this time of year. Enjoy.
Too many Christmas parties, carol concerts and staff pantos, I assume Ali. I remember them only too well. I am spending Christmas at Denver Castle in the company of Lord Peter Wimsey. I am hoping to take a course on the Dorothy L Sayers novels in the New Year and you have to admit I couldn’t ask for a better host.
Oh I love Dorothy London Sayers – I really must read some of those I’ve missed. Sounds like fabulous winter reading to me.
Hurrah! I’m delighted to have won a copy of To the Lighthouse. Thanks so much, Ali.
My pleasure. Hope you enjoy it.
Thrilled to have won Mrs Dalloway – thank you! I’m in the middle of my usual Dickens at Christmastime read – this year it’s Martin Chuzzlewit. I’ve also got what looks like a great collection of Christmas detective stories, though with a somewhat uninspiring title – The Big Book of Christmas Mysteries. Your two collections look great…
😊it’s years since I read any Dickens.
I’m counting the days when I can close the office door too though it will be unlikely to happen before 23rd unfortunately. Like the sound of your Christmas reading. I haven’t made my plan yet but it needs to be good to help me cope with three days away with the whole family. I’ll be climbing the wall by the end of it. I’m thinking that Half a Yellow Sun could do the trick but I’m also veering towards one of my beloved Louise Penny novels. A few days in the company of Inspector Gamache could be just the trick
Half a Yellow Sun is excellent of course beautifully written etc. Though it is quite harrowing in parts. Hope you have a relaxing few days whatever you decide to read.
Ha, it won’t be relaxing for sure – I rather think we’ll be lucky to get through three days without an argument
Ooh good luck then.
Congratulations to the winners! I am looking forward to reaching some of the lovely books in my TBR that keep inching away, pushed back behind a wodge of NetGalley and easy reads … and the first volume of Dorothy Richardson’s “Pilgrimage” series, too. Hoping for more reading time soon …
I hope my reading time increases over the holidays 😊
