A dedicated page for #DDMreadingweek 2022 – links will appear throughout the week – and after. I will add posts in as I find them.
This year I chose to read: The Loving Spirit, The Doll: short stories and The Glassblowers
Remember to check out the hashtag #DDMreadingweek on Twitter or Instagram to see what else readers are sharing.
Happy reading
Novels
Grumbling Appendix on the Hips Critiques blog has written a fascinating post about Rebecca – asking what Winifred Hotlby’s South Riding can tell us about Rebecca.
Hopewell’s Public Library of Life has reviewed Frenchman’s Creek
Liz from Adventures in reading running and working from home has read and reviewed The Scapegoat, I know myself how hard that one is to put down.
Constance from Staircase Wit has read The Glassblowers, a fascinating historical novel set during the French Revolution. Another reading of The Glassblowers was Gallimaufry – she felt it lacked some atmosphere and I had to agree – although overall I enjoyed the novel.
Susana from A Bagful of stories has written about her favourite Daphne du Maurier books which include The King’s General and Jamaica Inn.
Sarah from Market Garden reader has written an interesting post about her experience of reading Jamaica Inn and although her review is still to come, she found an interesting link between the book and The Joy of Sex.
Someone on Twitter pointed me in the direction of an old post from N S Ford on her blog about the books of Daphne du Maurier and its worth sharing here too.
Tracy at Bitter Tea and Mystery has read Rebecca. A book I still love very much.
Mallika from Literary Pot Potpourri read Frenchman’s Creek, it’s been a popular choice this year. Such a compelling, brooding novel.
Short stories
Liz – read the Don’t Look Now collection of stories that I recommended her when she asked on my blog what stories or novels featured an island. I remembered an island setting in one of these stories. Thankfully she enjoyed the collection, the link will take you to her Goodreads review.
Madam B from Madam Bibi liophile recommends has read The Alibi a short story from the Breaking Point collection.
Having read one story The Birds last year, Brona from Brona’s books went back and read the rest of the collection this year.
Jane at Just Reading a Book reviewed two stories from the Don’t Look Now collection, Not After Midnight and The Way of the Cross two fantastic stories linked by holidays.
Biography & memoir
Helen from She Reads Novels has read the memoir collection The Rebecca Notebook, which I want to read myself next year.
Simon from Stuckinabook also read The Rebecca Notebook. Such a good choice for the reading week.
Mallika from Literary Potpourri read and reviewed DDM’s biography of Branwell Brontë- The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë it’s clear DDM was fascinated and inspired by the Brontës and this work sounds well done.

(fingers crossed for the second)
Thanks for hosting such a wonderful week again Ali. I read more short stories this year – they’re a real treat 🙂
Those stories are really excellent, glad you enjoyed them.
And now I’m looking forward to sitting down this weekend and going through the rest of the list you’ve collated above. Thank you for dividing them by genre as well 🙂
I spent some time listening to people talk about DDM, I’ve listened to her talk about herself and I’ve been reading Jamaica Inn for the first time. I’ve really enjoyed the experience and will now be on the lookout for more of her books. Thank you for setting the challenge. The funniest thing is, I’ve found a link to The Joy of Sex! Here’s my blogpost about my DDM reading week. https://marketgardenreader.wordpress.com/2022/05/16/daphne-du-maurier-reading-week-ddmreadingweek-2022
