A very happy New Year to everyone who reads my blog – I hope 2013 is a happy and successful year for you in what ever you do. It is just under a year since I migrated my old blog over from LiveJournal to WordPress, and I am very glad that I did. Thank you to everyone who had helped to make my new blog rather more successful than my old one. In blogging terms it is still early days – and I hope in 2013 I will able to engage with even more enthusistic readers and bloggers. I am so grateful to everyone who comments on my posts and I do hope you continue to do so, it is always great to get some feedback.
So it is January 1st a brand new year. What does 2013 look like? Well for now at least we have blue skies and no rain, which is a rather good start after the epic rain we have been subjected to the last couple of weeks. I do wonder though what books will come my way in this new year. 2012 was a good year, and I can only hope 2013 is at least as good.
First up of course is my month of re-reading – and I have some great books lined up to read this month. There may well be another month of re-reading in July, but that may depend on the state of the TBR – which is rather dreadful at the monent. Also in 2013 is the Barbara Pym centenary, I along with other fans in the Librarything Virago group are going to be reading her books in publication order. If you want to join in the schedule is here.
I am not making any more bookish pledges just now – although common sense would suggest that I try not to buy any more books for a while. I am not making any promises though, my addiction is as bad as ever – I just have no more room on my very untidy TBR shelves – so I am planning to not buy anything during January which is my month of re-reading – when I’ll be reading nothing from my TBR (gulp).
This is how the TBR looks today ( several more books the camera has missed) – please tell me if yours is worse it’ll make me feel better.
I love seeing other people’s TBR shelves – or their regular shelves, for that matter. I’d be joining your re-reading except that I’d already signed up for a TBR challenge – but I look forward to seeing what you read. I hope 2013 brings you many great books.
Thank you : )
Your shelves look fascinating Ali. I confess whenever I go into someone’s house, I’m always drawn to their bookshelves to see what I make of them! My TBR is not so much a pile or a shelf as a half a room since I haven’t kept the unreads separate. Definitely I must read more of what I already have…
: ) My shelves look messy! There are lovely looking books on it though.
Happy New Year! I don’t think I could spend a whole month re-reading, but I do love revisiting old favourites so I will probably join in and re-read one or two books later in the month.
Excellent – there are lots of other people just re-reading one or two books -I look forward to hearing how you get on.
Happy New Year – I’m looking forward joining you in some rereading this month.
Happy New Year, glad you will joining in too.
Happy New Year! My tbr is much worse, about 800 books not counting what’s on the e-reader. I’ve resolved (again) not to buy any books for a while as I have a book for every possible mood here already. Luckily I already have the Thirkells you mentioned in another post so that’s one temptation less.
Yes always so easy to be tempted by lovely new releases.
My admittedly quite small TBR pile has been abandoned for the time being…. I was so taken with your comments on Lady Audley’s Secret that I immediately downloaded it onto my iPad. I am half way through and cannot put it down, so thankyou for the tip! Caroline
ooh good! Please let me know what you think when you have finished it.
I suspect my TBR would look worse if I hadn’t become an e-reader devotee: such an easy way to hide one’s many book-buying sins! Happy New Year, and may you discover many bookish treats in 2013.
Yes, I too have some hidden away on my kindle : )
I think I can comfort you a little by telling you that I have a lot more TBR books than those pictured above! I do not have them stacked seperately though as that would be too embarrassing!
It’s been lovely to see your posts develop and get a little longer as you’ve become more familiar with WordPress.
I’m determined to re-read some Austen this month to dip into your challenge if nothing else, Japanese reading challenge or not!
Thank you. Glad you will be re-reading Austen, she seems a popolare choice to reread.
