Birmingham meet up

It was the Birmingham bookcrossing meet today. I had a lovely time – it was a good turn out about 10 or 12 of us, so could have a good old chat. Geoff came with the supply store – which was marvelous because I could buy all my fav labels and stickers. I picked up an interesting book from the shelf which seems to have been previously taken and journalled by an AF then put back on the shelf at Hudsons.

Also got a bookring passed on to me – it was first registered almost 6 years ago and has had a wonderful jouney – the BCID begins with a number 1.

I only released one book on the way to the meet, because of all the hassles with the computer this morning. I will be walking down to Sainsbury’s tomorrow so may release a couple more then.

As mentioned above I had a nightmare with the internet earlier – for some bizarre reason I couldn’t get livejournal or bookcrossing, but could get all the other things I use – though it was slow. Marvelous Mathew – Liz’s OH has been sorting me out via Facebook messager, and got bookcrossing again, but only got livejournal again a few minutes ago. Very odd – but there apparently have been issues with Virgin today.

I got home about 10.00 – so it wasn’t a very late night – but it was a lovley evening. I left hoome just before 5 0′clock and got the bus to the petrol station by school to buy some wine – and then bused it into town. The traffic through Digbeth was unbelievable – I had to get off the bus in Digbeth and walk the rest of the way. Eventally met up with Catherine and Liz in Bullring Starbucks, (Bullring was heaving) and had a hot drink in Starbucks, where Sorcha joined us.
Made our way to The Warehouse cafe back down in Digbeth where the traffic was still at a standstill. Meal was lovely, I wasn’t mad about my starter – but main course was lovely and the cheesecake I had for dessert was to die for – but I am particularly fond of cheesecake. We all exchanged our secret santa pressies – everyone watches while you open it – and most people try to not give themselves away on the labels in the books( I always forget and have labels with my name on doh) I got three lovely books: The Flight of the Maidens – Jane Gardham, Love in a Cold climate – Nancy Mitford and A Redbird Christmas – Fannie Flagg. I have read A Redbird Christmas before and loved it so I think I will be offering it on a ring soon.

Sorting stuff..

I feel as if I have got a few little things sorted out in the last few days.

After recieving a high renewal figure for my home insurance, I did the old comparrison website thing, and found esure would insure my home building and contents for £286 as opposed to Halifax’s £501 – so chuffed with that.

On Saturday – I had the Virgin media bloke to fit my new modem etc – he was all done very quickly as the cable was already there from the peole who had the house before me. So home phone and broadband now no longer with BT – which has savedme about £15 a month. Very impressed with how quickly and smoothly it was all done, and I had no problems at all when I went to use the internet – not like when I have changed providers in the past.

I rang Virgin again lat night to arrange my long wanted new mobile. OMG my present handset has just about made it to this week – it’s so rubbish now. Anyway have got their 100 mins 100 texts thing for £10 a month and will have new phone too – it’s a Sony Ericsson T280i – but I won’t get it till Saturday cos I am not home to recieve delivery till then.

..And as well as all that had a lovely weekend, the Birmingham meet up, and Rosie’s visit were lovely, we all had a nice curry on Saturday night, and a fabulous lunch at KGC on Sunday.

After having spent yesterday with mum, who isn’t feeling too bad now – I was picked from her house today by Gill. We went off to Swindon, for what is becoming an annual event. Of course I forgot to take my camera and so I have no photos of the event. The food was good – although I managed to take far too many Quorn sausages and burgers with me, and had to bring most of them home with me. After concerns about the weather earlier in the week, we were very lucky. The sun shone from time to time, and the sky was blue. The good people of Swindon who had ventured out to Coate water park were bemused to see several crazy people putting books on benches, on the side of the crazy golf, and even hanging them from trees as they walked around the lake. There were a lot of people around and so lets hope we get some catches.

Thanks to Geoff for organising the bar-b-q and inviting us all along, it was a good day : )
