Oooh, lovely Holmes books! Like Liz, I did the tennage read-them-all thing with them, and I can still read them over and over again. In fact, Eldest Child gave me a lovely hardback edition of “Hound” a couple of years ago and I loved it all over again.

As for read everything by a particular author….. is that only a teenage thing, because *whispers* I still do that now!!

I haven’t read a Holmes story for aaaaages, this was another of my teenage fixations when you have to read EVERYTHING by a particular author. Do people still do that now, I wonder?

I liked The Stranger’s Child, but hated The Line of Beauty although, like you, found it beautifully written. The characters were all so self absorbed and unlikable, the plot failed to engage my interest, and I thought the detailed sex scenes were unnecessary. After reading your review I think I’ll pass on The Folding Star.

oh yes very much, though I may bring it to an end a few days early as I have too many books to read in early June – having to catch up with my Hardy read, and then the Barbara Pym reading week.

I still haven’t gone back to finish ‘Life Class’ from which I got distracted earlier in the year. I must drag it out from the lower reaches of the pile and get it read so that I can move on to this. Even though it stands alone I do like to read an author’s work chronologically. There must be a reason why she wrote them in the order she did.
